Re: How do i clean coins?
acetone and a qtip gently massaging not rubbing the dirt and grime; rinse with distilled water
or, try ms 69 dip or EZ est, two brands you can buy from brent kreuger online. goog that, good supplier |
Re: How do i clean coins?
If they have dirt and a petroleum based crud on them I'd get a gallon of Coleman lantern/stove fuel, soak them for a few days in a safe place, rinse them good outside with a hose, and then shake them around using a container with hot water and good grease-cutting liquid dishwashing detergent...let 'em set a couple days if needed...shake 'em again, and then rinse to see if they're clean.

come to think of it, brasso and a steel wool scouring pad would do the trick too. I mean if theyre junk anyways LOL Lets just hope you dont uncover a 1916 D merc dime while you're scrubbing them

Re: How do i clean coins?
I have a bunch of Silver eagles coins that I wanted to clean. But I am too lazy to do the aluminum foil + boiling water, is there any ready-made solution that I can buy to clean it without losing the silver content?

Colorized???
I have recently picked up three SE's from my coin dealer for $17 a piece. As he said "these are butt ugly but they're at least bullion.
I am thinking of trying to UN-colorize them (or at least one). Morgan mint says, "The colorizing is a permanent part of the coin." That may be PR as I cannot figure how that is possible unless using some type of chemical process. Be that as it may has anyone tried to do this? Any suggestions? |

Re: How do i clean coins?
TA, a while back you told me to use a dry cloth and work them clean...that's what i've been doing, it takes time, but it's time I enjoy spending with my lil' beauties.
